I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with my very own bandmate, Durell Anthony, in Episode 5 of the Pandemic-Proof Singer Series. He’s an amazing American soul singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Atchison, Kansas, Durell has been a staple in the Southern California private event music scene since 2010, and a lead singer for The Mighty Untouchables since 2018. As a backing vocalist, he’s shared the stage with some of the industry’s top names including, Karl Denson (Rolling Stones), John Elefante (Kansas), Paul Wall, Bun B, Slim Thug, Yolonda Adams & Carrie Underwood. And now, having more time on his hands at the moment, he got to work starting a YouTube singing channel.

As a solo artist, his latest single, Speechless, was released on Father’s Day, with two more singles to follow by the end of 2020. He’s also working on an EP scheduled for release in 2021. Have you been thinking about starting your own channel? Here are some tips to get you started!
Start a YouTube Singing Channel 🎦
✅ Use a custom YouTube channel photo background. You can create cool graphic designs for these at Canva.com.
✅ Set your channel type to “Musician”. Go to your channel, click “Settings” and you can select “musician” as your channel type. Now you can add performer information.
✅ Add links to your website
✅ Add tags to your channel and your videos. What will your fans type into YouTube to find your video? Tag your videos with venue names, your band name, song names, city, state, genre, and other relevant keywords. Then when someone types in a search for your song or band, you have a much better chance of coming up first.
✅ Create good titles for your videos. Include your band name, song name, venue, or location, and maybe even a few specific keywords that accurately describe your music.
✅ Add a variety of video content. In addition to your music videos, post interviews with your bandmates and fans.
✅ Use YouTube annotations. Video annotations allow you to add comments and links in your video.
✅ Interact and respond to comments. Your fans will love having one-on-one communication with you.
Your Next Step
Follow the tips above to get your YouTube singing channel started. Once you’ve got it up, please post the link in the comments so we can follow you!
